Pepper Road is on the North side of Northwest Highway, between Lake-Cook Rd. and Rte. 22. From Northwest Highway, turn on Pepper Road, and The Wild Onion will be on your right.

Take a look at a brewing operation of the future, built with sustainability in mind.  The restaurant and brewery run on geothermal technology from the lake, resulting in an annual energy savings of around 40%.   See first-hand how this Lean/Innovation/Sustainability initiative, has resulted in a manufacturing operation that is both efficient and Earth-friendly!

Dr. Wilkins’s presentation, “Human-Machine Interface 101:  Best Practices in Usability,” will give an overview of the ISA HMI 101 standard.  It will explain what the stand is and its importance to industry.  Maurice Wilkins is vice president of Yokogawa’s Global Strategic Technology Marketing Center (USMK), based in Dallas, Texas, and is part of Yokogawa’s Tokyo in the Industrial Automation Marketing Center.

Presentation 2:  Panel Discussion from  7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.

This panel discussion will include a brief presentation by each member of the panel, followed by Q and A from the audience.  The featured presenters are as follows:

Mr. Johnson will give an overview of Usability R&D, providing various methods that used during medical product design and development to ensure safe and effective use of medical devices.  He will focus on how outcomes from formative research  impact not only final device design, but the human factors validation required for 510(k) submission.  Korey Johnson is Associate Director at GfK User Centric, where he works with other senior managers to define strategy, particularly in the healthcare and medical device industry. He has served as User Centric’s primary representative to the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) and is also responsible for operation of User Centric’s business in Atlanta.

Dr. Wilcox is a Principal and the founder of Design Science (Philadelphia), a 25-person firm that specializes in optimizing the human interface of products—particularly medical devices.   His presentation, “Integrating Human Factors into Product Development,” focuses on three fundamental elements of collaboration necessary to ensure good human factors engineering:  1.  Observational Research, 2. Provision of human factors observations to the design team, and 3. Usability testing of prototypes with potential users.

Dr. Anthony Andre is a human factors compliance expert who presented at PDA (Pharmaceutical Development Association) with his presentation, “The Human Factors Top 10 List.”  He shared the stage with Kathy Lee, of the FDA, and is a compliance expert who enjoys sharing practical advice and personal stories of both good and bad product design.  Dr.  Andre is organizer and Chair of the 2013 Symposium on Human Factors and Ergonomics in healthcare.

Presentation 3:  FDA Ask-an-Expert from 8:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M.

In addition to the presenters above, FDA representatives will be available via teleconference to answer other regulatory questions about software useability.  If desired, you can ask questions anonymously.
