April 21, 2016 Pre-Dinner Speakers: Lean Six Sigma and Chicago Public Schools

 

George Chemers and Michael Moutrie applied  Lean Six Sigma at Chicago Public Schools. Together, they explain how the six sigma framework was applied to a public school procurement process to improve efficiency, effectiveness and customer satisfaction, while at the same time reducing its cost. Application of some of the well-known six sigma tools is highlighted along with key constraints on the project. It wraps up with a discussion of proposed KPIs and further actions to drive continuous improvement.


George Chemers  
has over 25 years of diversified experience.  He directed large, multi-discipline engineering initiatives in all phases of the Product Lifecycle including product design and development, software processes, product cost G Chemersreduction, and product quality improvement.  Mr. Chemers views quality considerations as the cornerstone of performance excellence, having begun his career with a Malcolm Baldrige Award winning company where Six Sigma and Continuous Improvement methodology were standard practice. As a result, he built a successful track record of integrating Best-in-Class quality practices into daily operations by identifying and implementing Quality Management Systems process improvements. He is also a Master Six Sigma Black Belt and a Certified ISO 9000 Auditor.  Mr. Chemers earned a BS from DePaul University, a MS from Northwestern University, and holds a Masters Certificate in Project Management from The George Washington University.

Michael Moutrie
began his career as an electrical design engineer with Motorola at the beginning of the Six Sigma M Moutrierevolution. As such, he was able to experience firsthand the powerful benefits this methodology brought to product design and manufacturing. Later, as he moved into engineering management and quality management roles, Mr. Moutrie saw how the Six Sigma framework could be applied to all aspects of a company’s daily operations, in virtually any business. Since then he has worked as a Lean Six Sigma consultant in a wide range of industries from avionics to gaming. Most recently he joined U.S. Cellular to design and implement a Quality Management System. Mr. Moutrie earned a BS in Electronics Engineering from the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee, is an ASQ certified Six Sigma Black Belt, and is a member of ASQ.
